A travelling kiosk of images showing the impact Word War 1 had on communities across Cheshire is being hosted by Congleton Museum until 22 February 2014.
Congleton images include Somerford Hall being used as a military hospital and the ladies’ war working party, in the town hall, making comforts for the troops.
These, in association with similar images, including the recruitment of soldiers by the Cheshire Regiment at Chester Castle, recuperating soldiers at the Barbour Institute at Tattenhall and the way in which we welcomed the Belgian refugees, provide an evocative introduction to those events which would subsequently change British society and the face of Europe forever.
This is the first of many activities being planned by the museum during the next four years, including a major exhibition in November 2014. If you have family memories and memorabilia which you would like to share through this exhibition please contact the museum on 01260 276360.
