The Old Mill 1752-2003

Description

A history of Congleton’s largest and oldest silk mill from its inception in 1752 to its final demolition in 2003. The story of this mill is a reflection of Congleton’s growth and demise as a textile manufacturing centre, from the entrepreneurial optimism of the growing silk industry, through diversification, into garment manufacturing, to the loss of contracts to far eastern production centres.
