Volunteers are essential to the working of Congleton museum. Without the time and skills offered by our volunteers, the museum would be unable to stay open to the public or function fully as a museum.

Congleton Museum is committed to treating all our volunteers with the respect and rights equal to that of any paid and contracted staff. We appreciate and value your volunteering and will do our best to make the experience enjoyable and rewarding.

In order to support your volunteer experience, the Museum Trust is dedicated to providing the following:

  • Appropriate information, induction, training and support to each volunteer
  • Adherence to all protocol, good practice and policies to ensure the well-being and professional treatment of all volunteers
  • Recognising the individual achievements of each volunteer
  • Good health and safety practice
  • Public liability insurance
  • Equal opportunities
  • Keeping volunteers informed of and involved in events and developments in the museum
  • An open and supportive atmosphere where volunteers' ideas are welcomed and, where possible, supported

As a Museum Trust volunteer, I agree to:

  • Allow a DBS check to be undertaken if appropriate
  • Work reliably and perform my volunteering role to the best of my ability
  • Provide notice whenever I am not able to volunteer
  • Carry out my role with regard to the Museum's Health and Safety Guidelines
  • Accept guidance and supervision from the Museum Development Officer, Trustees and other volunteers
  • Take part in training as appropriate
  • Respect and value all museum staff and volunteers
  • Keep the Museum Development Officer, Trustees or nominated supervisor informed of the work I carry out on behalf of the museum
  • Respect the confidentiality of Congleton Museum Trust, its staff, volunteers, visitors and service users, and not disclose any confidential information accessed in the course of my volunteer role to anyone outside the museum
  • Treat the museum collections with care and respect
